Do you find yourself isolating more often than not, are you avoiding texts or calls from friends? Do you have a sense that life is passing you by? Your thoughts and feelings are real and valid, you are not alone. Individual therapy can help.

Couples seek therapy for wide range of reasons such as: rebuilding trust after infidelity, seeking to improve communication, preparing for marriage, deciding to have a child, preparing for the arrival of a child, preparing to become empty-nesters, dealing with chronic illness or death of a family member, preparing for divorce or wanting to rekindle lost physical or emotional intimacy.

Clinical Focus

ADHD

Many of my clients come to therapy seeking relief from long term anxiety and/or depression.  For some adults these symptoms have been long term and has caused anguish that requires immediate attention.  I guide clients toward a better understanding of the behaviors that may have impacted work and home such as regulating emotions, managing impulsivity, minimizing distractions, procrastination and self-esteem.

As we dig deeper and clients gain a better understanding of their root issue-adult ADHD we focus on the secondary issues, which for some clients present as primary: shame, anxiety, low self-image, relationship issues, depression, and substance abuse. I strongly believe that ADHD is best approached with a strength-based model where clients learn to accept ADHD symptoms and themselves, building on strengths and communicating with self-advocacy.

I work with clients from a place of support, empathy, and understanding, utilizing individualized treatment plans and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and/or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).  Some adults with ADHD wish to address the impact their disorder has had on their relationships. I work with individual clients, couples, and families to increase understanding, strengthen bonds and build support.  Additionally, I can work collaboratively with your psychiatrist or other medical provider to provide feedback and assist them in medication management.

Life Transitions

I am passionate about supporting adults through times of life transitions. These new chapters
can be full of both excitement and tremendous adjustment. I am experienced in assisting and
advocating for people as they embrace their new reality and navigate challenges including
depression or anxiety. I enjoy working with adults and families who are dealing with the day-to-
day stressors of anxiety, grief and loss, relationship issues, parenting concerns, career ambitions
and navigating our new reality.

Parent Coaching

I work with parents of children with special needs and learning differences by providing collaborative direction.  Clients of special needs children feel comfortable knowing I am a fellow traveler on the special needs journey. I am delighted to work with parents of children with or without special needs who are seeking parent coaching.

A Special Needs Parent Coach offers you a confidential environment to gain new perspectives and tools so you may grow as the cohesive family you know you are. I will accompany you on this journey as your confidant as we work to strengthen your family’s foundation. Together, we will work to empower you as a special needs parent while helping you discover practical tools that will bring you and your family growth. You deserve someone on your team who can embrace the best interests of your family as a top priority.

ADHD Coaching

I recognize that indefinite therapy for ADHD is unnecessary.  I created the second phase of my approach to focus on cognitive coaching so that we can focus on organizational and motivational goals. Remove the burden from your spouse or parent by using ADHD coaching to focus on non-therapeutic issues like task management, organization and follow through.

Stress, Anxiety and Depression

It’s normal to feel sad, shouldn’t I be able to “snap out of it?”

That depends.  Are you struggling to enjoy life?  Maybe the activities that you used to enjoy feel more “meh” than “yeah.”  Are you worrying all the time or more than you used to?  Do you have a poor self image?  How is your concentration?  Sleep?  Eating habits? When was the last time you allowed yourself to relax?  Are you aware of being more “on edge” yelling at your partner or children and unsure of why?  Are you aware of feeling so overwhelmed that you find yourself feeling discouraged, unmotivated, or disengaged from your life?

Or maybe you notice that you’re often agitated, on edge, irritable, tense. Are these feelings making it hard to get inspired by the work you do, to muster the desire to go about your daily activities, or to spend time with family and friends?

Therapy can help you relate to these challenging feelings and experiences differently.

Now Offering Teletherapy to California Residents

Teletherapy or Online Therapy:  Since March 2020 and the start of the pandemic, the need for support has increased. Telehealth, online, video or Zoom therapy allows me to reach more people safely, through a convenient modality.  Online counseling has been around for quite some time.  Prior to the pandemic, it was recognized as a great resource for people with busy schedules who could not get to their therapist’s office. It is less time consuming than traveling to/from your therapist’s office.

It is more inclusive, enabling people with disability, physical illness or transportation issues access mental health care.

It is more comfortable for some people who prefer to remain at home.

I am not tech savvy, isn’t Telehealth complicated?
